How It Started: A Story of Love and Land

It all began with a Yahoo Finance Kenya article titled:

“Top Young Landowners Transforming Nairobi's Real Estate Market.”

One name stood out — Linet Achieng’, 29, landowner along Kangundo Road and founder of Nairobi Soil Holdings.

I was broke, running a struggling transport hustle in Umoja, but when I saw her at a brunch weeks later — the same smile from the article — I knew I had a chance. Not just for love… but for escape.

---

Building Love (and a Plan)

Linet was smart, driven, and had big dreams. Within months, she moved into my bedsitter. She spoke about her land with pride. I played my role — supported her ideas, proposed we co-invest.

To show trust, I added her to my mobile loan. She cleared it for me. We got married in Machakos. Our families celebrated.

Then she asked me to sign a "business form" to make me her partner.

I signed it.

The Shock on Yahoo Finance

Weeks later, I got a Google Alert. It was a Yahoo Finance Kenya article:

“Nairobi Soil Holdings Now 100% Female-Owned as CEO Restructures Shareholding.”

I clicked — my name wasn’t there.

That “form” I signed wasn’t a business proposal… it was a transfer of shares.

I was never her partner.

---

From Husband to Tenant

When I confronted her, Linet said:

> “You married me for my land, didn’t you? I just beat you at your own game.”

I was kicked out of our apartment two weeks later. She said I was “bad energy.”

Now she drives a 2023 Harrier, still owns the land, and dates a financial analyst from NSE.

And me?

Back in a single room in Kayole… refreshing Yahoo Finance to see her name again.

Dilemma: Who Used Who?

I married her for the land. She married me to play the long game.

We were both users — but she was smarter.
