> “She said she wanted a child with me — but her real desire was a visa and a surname that opened borders.”

The Romance That Felt Like Destiny

I met Diana during a business trip to Mombasa.

She was a freelance designer working with a local ad agency.

Elegant, articulate, charming — the type who could win over anyone from a boda guy to a boardroom CEO.

Within three months, she moved in with me in Nairobi.

We were that couple — the one people followed online for outfit inspo, travel goals, and matching Ankara sets.

But beneath the love, she started planting phrases like:

> “Would you ever relocate if I got a job abroad?”

“If I got pregnant, would you be ready immediately?”

“Have you ever thought of raising kids in Canada?”

---

The Baby Plan

One day after church, she said she felt her “clock ticking.”

She wasn’t asking for marriage, just a child.

“Marriage can come later, but my eggs won’t wait,” she laughed.

I said okay. I wasn’t ready — but her sincerity made it feel right.

Weeks later, she announced:

“I’m pregnant!”

We celebrated quietly, planned a baby moon in Naivasha, and even visited a gynecologist in Kilimani.

Then Her Emails Leaked

My younger cousin, a computer science student, was fixing my laptop.

He noticed some autosaved Google accounts and opened one.

What he found?

An email draft from Diana titled:

“Pregnancy and PR Timeline for 2025 Visa”

She had written:

> “Once the baby is born, apply for birth certificate in his surname. Use that as leverage.

His background (finance, media) boosts application strength — make sure his LinkedIn is linked.

End goal: PR status and eventual Canadian citizenship by 2027.”

She had even copied a Yahoo Finance Canada article about how families with tech/media experience had higher approval success.

My stomach turned.

---

She Says It Was Just Planning

When I confronted her, she said:

> “What did I do wrong? I love you, and I’m also planning our future. You act like I murdered someone.”

She denied faking the pregnancy.

She said the article was just “inspiration”.

And that I should be proud she was thinking of growth.

But now I wonder:

Was I the man she loved?

Or just the profile that made her visa dream more believable?
